Do y’all remember John Frieda’s beach blonde sea salt spray? I rocked that stuff out like crazy in high school! Sadly, the geniuses at JF discontinued it eons ago. (Bring it baaaaack!) Happily, I’m a make-do kinda gal and have been whipping up my own version in my kitchen for ages. It’s ridiculously easy to crank out at home and costs next to nothing. As you might already know, I’m honored to be a part of the blogging team over at Beauty Bets, an award-winning beauty website created by Elizabeth Dehn. I can hardly believe it, but it’s been nearly a year since my first post! Time certainly flies when you’re having fun. Especially when your definition of fun means test-driving a budget beauty products day in and day out!

This year’s been full of entrepreneurial adventures and growth for both Elizabeth and me, but one MEGA HUGE ACHIEVEMENT that deserves extra-special attention is the debut of Elizabeth’s eponymous skincare line: By Elizabeth Dehn. Unsurprisingly, the collection is ALL killer and NO filler. Juicy, nutritious ingredients and effective formulas, finished off with the prettiest of packaging. Also not surprising?  One product that has Bets running back to bottling plant already is her Face Spray, which I think should be renamed Change-Your-Day Spray. Just a quick mist of this heavenly scented stuff can quite honestly turn my entire outlook around! Wowzers, today’s been a busy one. I’m excited to knock out some quick errands and then spend the rest of the night unwinding with a yoga DVD and a super-duper hot bath. While I’m erranding, stretching and soaking, enjoy these links to things that have been making me happy this week.

♥ Obsessed is an understatement when it comes to my search for classic country blogs that are worth following. Wild Mountain Roses is one of my happiest discoveries of late.

♥ Did you see my pal Mary in Glamour mag this month? She’s on pg. 132 looking sooooo beautiful in a thrifted skirt she bought on one of our many shopping adventures. And I also spotted a trio of MPLS cuties, photographed by Ellen Dahl, in this month’s Lucky! You go girls!

♥ The juicy pops of colors in Rodarte for Opening Ceremony’s lookbook are so rad! Thanks to Nylon, I found out that Urban Outfitters sells a pack of surround Holga filters so you can recreate the look yourself. Sweetness.

♥ How close have I come to convincing myself that I need a drawer full of these $68 knickers from Hopeless? Dangerously.

♥ Staying on the topic of irresistable underthings, I would have given my right arm to be at The Loved One’s fanatically flower-filled pop-up shop opening. Why does everything awesome happen in California? (No really, why?)

♥ This “It’s Cool to be a Cat Guy” video cracked me up. (My guy, for the record, is definitely a cat guy.)

♥ I’ve blabbed about my love for retro curls here and here, so you can imagine how excited I am to try Seablanket’s ’70s curl how-to. She has the best tutorials, FYI!

♥ And finally, since we’re on the topic of getting prettified, Beauty Bets‘ e-newsletter launches tomorrow. Have you signed up?

beauty bets guest post: bargain stocking stuffers

I’m soooo excited about the post I did for Beauty Bets this week. It’s a round-up of affordable stocking stuffers—every item costs $6 or less! I was super picky about what I included, and whittled it down to nine products that I really, truly love. Including…my favorite hair product that came out in 2010, a classic red nail polish every gal should own, the eco-friendly makeup bag I tote around with me everywhere and a glittery eyeliner that should cost way more than it does ($5.29). And a whole bunch of other sweet gifties.

In other words, I think you’ll dig it.

Another bonus, everything I picked is for sale at Target, CVS, Walgreens, etc., so if you’ve procrastinated like me, you can easily find any of the products I mentioned right up until the holiday. Anyway, stop on over and check it out if you like.

Hiya!

This Wednesday is going to be beautiful. Wanna know why?

For one, it’s the middle of the work-week. Just a couple more days, and then another blissful weekend will be here. And as you all know, I love my weekends.

For two, it’s the day my weekly beauty column runs over at Beauty Bets. This week, I shared an off-the-menu salon technique that extends the life of summery highlights, and keeps dollars in your pocket. I even show off my greasy roots in the before photo. The things I do for you dear readers, I tell ya! Check out the post here.

For three, I’m finally getting a new garage door! This might not sound like a huge deal, but believe me, it IS. I’ve been without a working garage door for ages, and finally have enough saved to replace it. Yessss!

And last, but not least, Wednesdays = nacho night. Icing on the cake.
