heads up: my rummage sale is tomorrow!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetToday it’s my pleasure to fill you in on a rummage sale I’m personally very excited about…because it’s mine! My basement and garage have been filled to the brim with all kinds of (mostly vintage) goodness and it’s time to send it all off to other good homes.

I’m parting with a TON of sweet stuff, including clothes, sized XS-XL, furniture, framed art work, craft supplies, electronics, Pyrex, holiday decorations and books, in addition to approximately one billion other things for your home and garden. From soaker hoses to needlepoint, there’s definitely a little bit of everything up for grabs and it is all PRICED TO GO! Sneak peeks will be hitting Twitter and Instagram later today, but in the meantime, here’s the Craigslist ad that outlines what’s for sale, location details and sale hours.

Should you be in the mood to make a morning of it, tomorrow also happens to be the 12th annual SENA neighborhood rummage sales, which are 150+ strong and right in the neighborhood next door. SENA sales are running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you can pick up a guide at Angry Catfish, the Midtown Farmers Market or Keen Eye Coffee. If shopping makes you hungry, I just heard that Tiny Diner‘s finally open, which is just up the road from me, but there’s also yummy brunch to be had at Blackbird, Five Watt Coffee, Pepito’s (hello, brunch buffet) and Colossal Cafe, and all are mere minutes from my house.

Rain or shine, I hope to see you tomorrow!

heads up: can’t-miss country club garage sale

yKLWqbzI love days when blog-topics literally fall into my lap. Like this morning, when my co-worker Erin mentioned she was going to a “fancy” neighborhood garage sale on Saturday. Considering the source, a woman whose collection of vintage St. John is utterly mind-blowing and never looks anything less than 100-percent pulled-together, I knew had to get the scoop and share it here. If anyone gets the actual true definition of “fancy,” it’s her!

Here I go, quoting the Craigslist ad:

“The King of all garage sales. Tomorrow (Sat.) from 8-1:00. Near 50th and France. HWY 100 to 50th Street Go East to Wooddale. Look for the Green signs. There are other sales going on in the Country Club Neighborhood….here are a few of the addresses participating:
4511 Wooddale Ave
4524 Arden Ave
4503 Wooddale Ave
4525 Drexel
4208 Sunnyside Road
4508 Bruce
4514 Wooddale
4501 Casco”

So there you have it! Not a lot of details, but definitely a whole lot of promise, given the zip code. If you’re unfamiliar with Edina, don’t be deterred if you get a little shade thrown your way by its residents.

It comes with the territory.

Wishing you all the best of weekends!

(Click through for hours, directions and details.)

New to You Thriftique’s Warehouse Sale: When thrift-store warehouses overflow, it can only mean good things for us. uff da, aka things I’m excited to do tomorrow

uff-da-card-pkg-jjs

Uff da, this week’s been a doozy. And I don’t even have a single thing to blame, either. It’s just been kind of a never-ending string of unfortunate occurrences, so much so that I don’t know if I should laugh it up or cry. I’ve been getting by with a few of my favorite sanity-saving activities, i.e. walking the dog, digging around the garden, texting with my Mom and emotionally eating way too much jalapeñopineapple pizza.

I have also been looking forward to tomorrow, Thursday, which has been like a little light at the end of the tunnel. Because tomorrow, two exciting things are going down.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

First, after work, I’m going to check out Spirit of Hope United Methodist’s annual rummage sale. I drive past this church on the daily (pretty much), so when I saw the big blue sign advertising the sale, I knew I had to work a stop into my schedule. The sale runs tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Click through for the address and directions.)

2525c5b74ece40bdf68cd2c578a331bdSecondly, my friend Alex is hosting a shindig for vinyl-loving ladies at Secret Stash’s HQ. I’m SO happy Alex got this group together, and that we’re hanging tomorrow, because, real talk, I could use a night of good music, smiles and chit-chat. Also, I really (REALLY) need the new Sonny Knight record, so fingers crossed they have a copy around for me to buy. (You can hear some of Sonny’s songs, and more from Secret Stash, right now, right here.) If you’re not busy and want to hang, please do come through! (The fun starts at 7 p.m.)

xoxo,

Meghan

P.S. The Uff Da stationery pictured above is available locally at Ingebretsen’s, $9 for a set of four. (I think I need it.)

heads up: woodbury lions community garage sale

img3928Spring has finally (FINALLY!) sprung in Minnesota, meaning garage-sale season is officially underway. (Thank heavens!) At the top of my list of sales to hit this spring is the Woodbury Lions Community Garage Sale, running tomorrow, May 8th through Saturday, May 10th. Now in its 37th year (!!!), this mammoth event includes literally hundreds of sales, and is one of the biggest community rummage sales in the entire state.

Of particular note is a sale happening in the Stonemill Farms neighborhood (exact address: 2487 Fieldstone Curve, Woodbury 55129). Hosted by a friend of a friend, this sale, that starts today at noon, boasts a stellar lineup of merchandise (baby/kids clothes, shoes, activities, games, maternity clothes, furniture, Depression-era glassware, designer purses). More importantly, all proceeds raised at this particular event are going to cover medical expenses of my friend’s friend, who was diagnosed with a congenital CMV infection while pregnant with her second child. I’d never heard of this virus before hearing her story, but it’s actually surprisingly common, and the treatments currently available are shockingly limited. (Please do take a moment to learn more about virus, and how to prevent the spread of it, here at www.stopcmv.org.)

Detailed directories are available for $5 starting tonight through the weekend at the Woodbury Kowalski’s Market, Rainbow Foods, Cub Foods and most all area gas stations. To plan your trek in advance, download the digital directory now to your phone or tablet, available here. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., tomorrow through Saturday.

Good luck and have fun!

xoxo,

Meghan

heads up: 100-mile garage sale

tumblr_mknil0eyyj1rqpai0o1_500

Today was confusing. It started with an emotional airport goodbye. Followed by a trip to Menards for bathroom lighting that ended with me buying two door mats with daisies on them and a three-pound bag of Red Vines. And then, when I took my lunch break, on this first day of MAY, flakes of SNOW pelted me IN THE FACE.

Like I said, weird.

But I’m not letting it get to me. Because May in Minnesota = the start of rummage-sale season, aka my favorite time of the year (second only to Christmas, of course). Topping my list of May sales to hit is the 100-Mile Garage Sale, a three-day bargain-hunting extravaganza that stretches all the way from Winona to Red Wing. Thousands of individuals, businesses and even entire TOWNS clear out their basements, garages and attics to participate in this event. Not sure where to start? Just head down to beautiful bluff country and look for the flags, balloons and signs along Highway 61 on the Minnesota side (35 on the Wisconsin side) and get to spending. Here’s a map to make it easy—click on any of the markers to see more info (hours, addresses, featured goodies, etc.) on specific sales. You can also search the listings here, in case you’re on the hunt for something(s) in particular. Helpful, huh? I can’t wait to check it out!

Are there any big rummage sales you’re looking forward to this spring? Big or small, I’d love to know which ones are on your must-hit list!

xoxo,

Meghan

heads up: calvary lutheran’s 10th annual church rummage sale

It’s mid-October, which means it’s time for the Lutheran church down the street from me to hold their annual rummage sale. Last year, I made quick pit stop there on my way to work and scored some cute stuff, including a couple vintage dresses, a pair of beautiful gold hoop earrings, some mugs and gifties for Mighty Swell grab bags all for under $8. The surprise find was this autographed, framed photo of Stevie Nicks I got for 50 cents.

Seeing this reminds me that I still need to thrift a new frame for this baby. Anyhow, go see what’s there for yourself! Here’s what you need to know.

Calvary Lutheran Church’s Tenth Annual Rummage Sale
Address: 3901 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis
Hours: Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon everything is half-price, from noon to 3:00 p.m. it’s $1/bag and $2/box and from 3 – 4:00 p.m. everything that is left is free. Proceeds raised go towards the church’s many community programs, including Beechwood Inc., the Twin Cities Women’s Choir and Crossroads Community Organization.

Reasonably priced breakfast goodies, coffee, soup, hot dogs, BBQ and homemade desserts will also be available. If percolator coffee isn’t your thing, swing by Blue Ox Coffee Co before or after the sale. It’s just down the street and they pour one of the best cups of coffee in town.

heads up: calvary lutheran’s 9th annual rummage sale

The Lutheran church down the street from me is holding their annual rummage sale this weekend. I made a quick pit stop there on my way to work and was quite impressed with theprices and selection. I scored a couple vintage dresses, a Minnesota state flag, a pair of beautiful gold hoop earrings, some mugs and gifties for Mighty Swell grab bags and a drying rack for dishes (my dishwasher kicked the bucket week!) all for under $8. The surprise find of the morning was this autographed, framed photo of Stevie Nicks I got for 50 cents. (50 cents!!!) The frame is fugly, but that’s an easy enough fix.

Anyway, there was a ton of stuff left this morning and they had boxes and boxes still to put out. If you’d like to check out this sale, here’s what you need to know.

Calvary Lutheran Church’s Ninth Annual Rummage Sale
Address: 3901 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis
Hours: Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon everything is half-price; from noon to 3:00 p.m. it’s $1/bag and $2/box; from 3 – 4:00 p.m. everything that is left is free. Proceeds raised go towards the church’s community programs, including Beechwood Inc., the Twin Cities Women’s Choir and Crossroads Community Organization.
Reasonably priced breakfast treats, coffee, soup, hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches and homemade desserts are also available.

I’ll definitely be stopping back tomorrow afternoon to shop the bag sale and pick up an apple pie bar and cup of coffee. I hope y’all are having fantastic Fridays so far!

rummage sale finds

I practiced an above-average level of restraint this Saturday and went home with only a  couple of things from our rummage sale. Some bargains are just too good to pass up.

For example…

And, just when we were wrapping up the day, Andrea’s mom dropped off this beautiful afghan she found. I love it so much!

Did you get out rummage sale-ing or thrifting this weekend? Find anything fun?

heads up: mighty swell sidewalk & rummage sale!

Hi dolls!

One of my tip-top favorite things about Mighty Swell‘s storefront space is our ‘hood. Neighbors stopping in to say “hi” while I’m putzing around the store, knowing the man at the family run hardware store on a first-name basis, having a regular order at the hot dog shop next door—these small interactions in our nook of the community make my heart sing. So, when we learned about the Standish, Ericsson & Corcoran Neighborhood Garage Sale (the largest in the city!) we knew we just had to be a part! So, we’re having a sidewalk sale, TOMORROW from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.!

Rae and I have marked down a hefty amount of vintage merchandise, and we’ve also pillaged through our closets, garages, attics and basements, unearthing all kinds of fun stuff. And everything outside will be priced to GO. After all, we’ve got to make a little room for all the pretty stuff we’ve found for our upcoming summer sale right? (Details on that coming soon, promise!)

Anyway, if you are in the area and want to experience summer bargain hunting at its finest, I highly suggest checking this event out! You can pick up sale maps starting at 8:45 a.m. at the following locations:

Angry Catfish Coffee / 4208 28th Avenue South
Midtown Farmers’ Market / Lake Street & 22nd Avenue
Caribou Coffee / 4745 Cedar Avenue South (Cedar & Minnehaha)
Holiday Station Store / 3550 Cedar Avenue South

And don’t forget to highlight Mighty Swell Vintage when you’re circling the sales you want to hit—we’re at 3109 East 42nd Street. (Or just look for the cute teal open sign, a bunch of balloons and a sidewalk full of stuff!!)

See you there, rain or shine!

xo,

Meghan
