heads up: hula hoop your way to savings

tumblr_n050toJjhK1qa5yk2o1_500Work your waist tomorrow at Empty the Next and you may earn yourself a half-off discount! Simply show up between noon and 4 p.m. and shimmy-shimmy as many times around as your rhythm will allow. Each time the hoop goes round your waist, you earn you 5% off any item of your choice. Three times = 15% off, five = 25%, eight = 40% and so on up to 50% off. Fun right?

Here are a few things I wouldn’t mind picking up on discount…

Pink and White Singer Cabinet Sewing Machine (model #626), $40

Yellow Homemade Toy Chest (for storing my deck cushions in), $10

Sweet utility/bakers/potting rack (great potential when repainted!), $25

To see all 80+ items Empty the Nest has listed on Craigslist, click here, but also know that their warehouse is big, consistently full and new stuff is put out constantly.

Happy hooping!

Meghan

weekend sale circuit: may 16-18

tumblr_n19nl02LiV1qzfrd2o1_1280Hey all, it’s finally Friday! If you’re in the mood to do some secondhand shopping this weekend, here are a few sales happening around town you might want to check out!

Camp DuNord & Camp Widji Garage Sale: Rumor has it this sprawling, weekend-long sale is the place to go for used camping equipment and tents. A 30-year tradition that started in a front yard in Roseville and has since moved to the Merchandise Mart Building at the State Fair Grounds, this event raises funds to support the summer camps. (Click through for hours, directions and details.)

Kingfield Garage Sale: Neighborhood rummage sale season continues tomorrow with Kingfield’s annual event. Save time and plan ahead with this handy Google Map that outlines sale locations, or pick up a printed map at the Nicollet Ace Hardware, Butter Bakery Cafe, Anodyne or Royal Grounds. Official sale hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., tomorrow only.

New to You Thriftique’s Warehouse Sale: When thrift-store warehouses overflow, it can only mean good things for us. For the first time ever, the New to You Thriftique is opening its furniture-laden back-stock to the general public. Teasers posted promise a huge selection of kitchen and dining sets, desks, sofas, book cases, beds and sporting goods and gardening supplies galore. The warehouse is conveniently located at 8838 7th Avenue North in Golden Valley, directly across from the new Culver’s, and the sale runs tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Linen & Designer Goods Sale at Assistance League Thrift Store: Refresh your linen stash this weekend and enjoy 50% savings on all tablecloths, sheets, napkins, etc. All designer goods are 75% this week as well! (Check out my recent review of the store here!)

heads up: one-day dress sale at Savers + Unique Thrift Stores

tumblr_msh9i3GjjE1qaujg4o1_500I don’t know about y’all, but I am beyond stoked that sundress season is back. And though I’m in no way in need of any new (old) dresses, that doesn’t make me any less  tempted by the 40%-off dress sale happening at Savers, Unique and Valu Thrift Stores today. The event, running at all area stores from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., includes dresses for both grown-up and little ladies alike (but excludes frocks with red tags). You must have an I M Unique Club Card or Super Savers Club Card in your possession to partake in the savings. (Do NOT try registering for a card today, they won’t allow it on sale days!)

heads up: “take a chance” sale at empty the nest

tumblr_mazm7mEsPQ1qf6jy9o1_r1_500Though my overall sense of hand-eye coordination leaves something to be desired, I’m freakishly decent at darts. Which may explain why I’m so excited about Empty the Nest‘s “Take a Chance” sale. Happening tomorrow between noon and 4 p.m., customers have the chance to lob a dart at the board, with the number hit being the percentage they’ll save. Doubles and triples don’t apply, but still, what a tempting prospect, even for the non-darters in the world!

I personally have my eye on this rattan coffee table they posted on Facebook, though I’m pretty sure my boyfriend would kill me if I brought one more piece of furniture into this house. As you know from my past posts on Empty the Nest (here, here, and here), you never know what treasures await in their fully-loaded showroom.

If you pay them a visit tomorrow, I wish you nothing but bulls-eyes!

Meghan

heads up: weekend linen sale

linen1To say I’m linen-obsessed is an understatement if ever there was one. So you can imagine my delight when I heard the downtown-Minneapolis four metro-area Salvation Army stores (downtown, Bloomington, Burnsville and Fridley) are having a 25%-off linen sale tomorrow and Saturday. Unfortunately for us vintage-linen lovers, only fabrics in the new-goods basement will be on sale at the downtown store; at the other three locations, linens both old and new will be discounted. I’m planning on swinging by Friday in hopes of picking up a tablecloth and some napkins to polka dot.

Happy hunting!

heads up: empty the nest’s music + jewelry sale

There aren’t many things that can entice me to slog through rush-hour traffic more than I have to (twice a day). But when I got a sale alert on Thursday from Empty the Nest with the subject line “Turn Up the Music, Bring on the Bling,” I kind of had to see what it was about, even if it meant more time on the road.

vscocam1488If you haven’t been, Empty the Nest’s warehouse is a big, two-room, packed labyrinth of stuff, meaning, it takes time to wind your way through. Starting in the front, I worked through the shelves of china, around the game and book section, and back towards the racks and stacks of records, passing by loads of great furniture (highboys, side table sets, ottomans, dining sets, cradles, etc.) and lamps.

vscocam1481   As part of this music-themed event, Empty the Nest put roughly 800 LPs out for sale, priced at $1 a piece. In addition to records, they also have some funky instruments, stereo systems and sheet music, all priced to move. I took home a chunk of records (18, to be exact), but left a lot of great ones behind.

A sampling of what I bought…

records1The other focus of this weekend’s event is costume jewelry, which they had quite a bit of, including clip-on earrings, brooches, necklaces and scarf, sweater and money clips from the ’50s through present-day. From the promo email, I was expecting tons more jewelry to pick through, but I do have a hunch that more stock will be out today and tomorrow. On the plus side, prices on the jewelry were great, with most pieces running around $2.

vscocam1475Open today and tomorrow from 9 to 4 p.m., I would say this is definitely a sale worth checking out. Directions to their showroom, located right off 35W in Burnsville, are here. While you’re in the area, here are some other thrifts you might want to check out.

I hope you have lovely weekends!

heads up: big winter sale at hidden treasures thrift store

tumblr_mc3wzzQx5T1qig9p5o1_1280

Hey snowflakes! If you’re anywhere else but Minneapolis this week, well done. It’s frigid here. Like negative-something-or-other frigid. In an attempt to soften the blow of the deep freeze we’re in the midst of, Hidden Treasures Thrift Store if offering a 50 percent discount on all clothing, outerwear, shoes, boots, hats, scarves, gloves and mittens now through January 26th. This little thrift that could is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday meaning there’s plenty of time to scoop up some spectacularly priced goods! (Read my review of Hidden Treasures Thrift Store here.)

Stay warm y’all!

Meghan
