I swung by the record store on my break yesterday to pick up tickets to see Ronnie Spector. She’s performing next Saturday at the Girls Got Rhythm Fest, an extremely awesome female-powered rock ‘n’ roll weekend and the brainchild of my super cool pal Dana. I AM SO DARN EXCITED. I’ve listened to “Be My Baby” probably 6,000 times in my short little lifetime, but to hear Ronnie sing it in person is an experience I cannot possibly miss. With the show being almost around the corner, I’d figured I’d share a few fabulous images of Ms. Spector and The Ronettes from back in the day.

The icing on the cake is that Ronnie’s just one of MANY fabulous artists performing at the festival—check the lineup if you don’t believe me! If you’re in the Twin Cities area, and you like rock ‘n’ rollin’ lady bands, I’d really recommend you be there. Tickets for the entire weekend (as well as single night passes), are available at Treehouse Records, Eclipse Records or online right here. Wouldn’t tickets to see Ronnie make for a great early Mother’s Day present? Talk about an awesome mother-daughter date!

Happy Saturday, y’all!

In preparation for tomorrow’s show, I’ve been listening to a *lot* of Kris Kristofferson, including some recordings featuring his former wife, Rita Coolidge. I wish some celebrated rocker wives would emulate Rita’s effortless, natural ’70s style and just say no to Botox and boob jobs. Behold the prettiness…

Ah, Meryl Streep. One of my inspirations for slapping on SPF on the daily. As gorgeous as she is now, I had fun digging up pics of her from the late ’70s and ’80s. Whether she was riding a subway in a sundress or sitting at a table at the Academy Awards with an upswept updo and kohl-rimmed eyes, she’s just. so. radiant.

Yesterday afternoon, I found this video of a fresh-faced Stevie Nicks, singing backstage as she gets her makeup done before an appearance in 1981. And in between now and then,  I’ve probably watched it 13,000 times.

I love how comfortable and happy she seemed. Something about how she couldn’t keep herself from singing, even when she’s sitting in the makeup artist’s chair, really just made me happy. Anyway, watching it made me want to track down more images of her from this era of her life.  You know, the “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”/Wild Heart era. When her off-stage style was more relaxed than the over-the-top gypsy looks she favored while performing.

If you don’t agree that she was insanely gorgeous, I’d say you’ve been smokin’ it. Also, I think I’ve officially developed a major thing for that late ’70s hair, as already documented here. Anyway, I hope you all have wonderful Tuesdays!

Hi lovelies!

Time for another Style Magic feature, this one featuring one of my most favorite country ladies, Bobbie Gentry. Not only is this enchanting beauty a ridiculously gifted songwriter/singer, but she has a style all her own. I love how she can rock a va-va-voom showgirl-style frock (complete with a waist-high slit) in one pic and then be perched barefoot in a tree, looking ever-so-comfy in jeans and a pull-over in the next. And that hair! The ever-present voluminous mass of long, long, long brunette locks—I just love it. (I even gush about it on Beauty Bets tomorrow! Go see!)

Hey lovelies!

Holy moly! My creativity’s been kick-started majorly these past few days and I’m straight-up brimming with ideas. I’ve been busy hatching plans—for my new studio space, for growing my business, for some amazing trips I want to take with my sweetheart and of course, cooking up new things for the blog. Le duh!

That said, today, I’m debuting a regular photo-heavy feature called Style Magic. We all know, or know of people who have effortlessly cool, sparkly style. And I don’t mean sparkly like sequins, glitter and gold, but sparkly like aspirational, unique and awesome.

This first post features the *very* magical Sylvie Vartan. I pretty much adore everything about this French yé-yé girl, from her hair to the gap between her teeth.
