Hey all!
This afternoon, my pal Mary tipped me off that a shoot by Serah Star, featuring a sweet piece of vintage borrowed from yours truly, was online. The entire spread is so lovely, you must check it out.
The piece of lingerie I lent is sooooooo super pretty! It’s the perfect shade of mint green and it’s in fantastic shape, considering that it’s probably around 60 years old.

Thanks so much to Hollie Mae and AJ for paying me a visit and finding some pretty things to play with. Local stylists, take note: Rae and I and all our vintage are here for you!
I’m off to enjoy some pasta & red wine. Nighty night!

Man, I am such a sucker for the sentimental. Take, for example, these two framed cross-stitched beauties.
The top one I found for $14 a few months ago at this amazing vintage shop in Elk River. I was really impressed with the size and condition and knew it would fit perfectly in my pink bedroom above my grandma’s jewelry table. The one on the bottom I scored via trade last weekend from Bourbon & Lace. I spotted it right away and wanted it, but held off until Sunday afternoon to reserve it as mine. I’m so glad I did, because I love it and think the two look rad together. (Thanks to my sweethearted boyfriend for hanging them up for me!)
I also came across this pretty set of glasses this week at the Salvation Army on Nicollet. There were six in the set, but I noticed one was cracked at the register and had to toss it. I love the cutesy ribbons & roses pattern and the gold trim. They were .99 cents a piece.
Well, I’m off to catch up on some housework/bill paying and then take Finnie on a quick walk. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi!
Holy buckets, can it really be Wednesday night already? Gee whiz, how time flies. Tonight, I thought I’d share some pics from our second Mighty Swell pop-up, courtesy of Kate NG Sommers, who not only was kind enough to come early and shoot the shop on Saturday, she also came toting a shovel. Which we needed in the most intense way possible.
So, in case you couldn’t make it, due to the epic snowfall, there are some little peeks. And if you did, THANK YOU SO MUCH for braving the weather and roads. Rae and I are already hatching plans for spring, and have some sweet ideas up our sleeves. Keep up with us on Facebook & Twitter to be the first in the know about our next event.
Well, I’m off to make a (hopefully) quick trip to IKEA. I’m hosting a mini baby shower for my dear friend Jamie on Saturday and am needing some somethings for a surprise project. The theme is “nachos.” Take a guess on who came up with that! ; )

P.S. Here’s a sneak peek of the store, or at least how it looked last night at 10 p.m.
Hey lovelies!
Today, the wonderful gals of Teacup Vintage are takin’ over the blog. I’m so excited that they tackled a conundrum we Minnesota girls face annually: Dressing cute when it’s -20 outside. As expected, they came up with some super adorable looks for all kinds of holiday situations. If I had it my way, I’d be cozying up to a roaring fire in look #3 every night now through March.
I hope you all enjoy it, too!

In the winter wonderland of December, we want outfits that say cozy with style. Personally, we tend to mix vintage and modern clothing, with lots of feminine details that add a touch of softness (think ruffles, pearly buttons, fur, velvet, and silk) thrown in for good measure. Since the Mighty Swell sale is just around the corner, we pulled pieces from our winter collection to put together looks for holiday style inspiration. Find these Teacup Vintage pieces and more at Tarnish & Gold this weekend.
Look #1: Under the Mistletoe

Classic colors, red and black, can be played up with a multitude of textures. This look is ladylike and classy with a hint of sex appeal (you choose how high to button it up): a red ruffled polka-dotted blouse paired with a black velvet high-waisted skirt, black tights, and lace-up heels. Add another dimension with a multicolored floral clutch.
Look #2: Date at the Ice Rink

Winter dates can be fun and stylish with the right outerwear. Vintage coats are unique and always in style: this one is an ivory wool blend with pearly brown buttons and a belted waist. Top off the look with soft gloves, a cream muff with brown velvet lining, cable knit tights, and ice skates of course!
Look #3: Sipping Cocoa by the Fire

This outfit says “cuddle me” and is so cozy and cute. We are loving novelty sweaters this season, especially those featuring animals. This look features an oversized sweater with two puppies in love, jeans tucked into cream stockings, with tall brown woven leather boots. Complete the look with a large vintage ivory handbag. Extra marshmallows please!
Look #4: As the Ball Drops

On New Year’s Eve, anything goes. We wanted to sparkle it up so we paired a lovely black 50’s party dress with gold tights, a black sequined head wrap, a small metallic handbag, and heels. We love mixing and matching metal tones with a black base piece. So fun, easy, and adds an extra splash of fanciness to a look.
Check the Teacup Vintage blog for more style inspiration, we will be updating it regularly!

I’m so, so, so pumped to have my pal Atty, of Attys Vintage, participating in the next Mighty Swell sale. She has the most fabulous and fun mid-centry finds—I’m pretty sure I’ve hearted nearly half of her shop’s stock!
Anyway, I put together a cute little gift guide featuring some of what will up for grabs at the sale, and let me tell, had a hard time keeping it short! Atty also promises to have a couple sets of vintage dishes on hand, in addition to plenty of glass and bar ware, home decor and other nostalgic goodies of all kinds.

Isn’t all super precious??! Come by next Saturday *early* to get first dibs! (Or, if you can’t make it, check out Atty’s super-stocked Etsy shop. It’s 400+ items strong and she’s got plenty in her sale section, too!!!)

Rae, sweetie that she is, put together a sneak peek shoot for a bunch of merchandise that’s up for grabs at the next Mighty Swell sale. Many thanks to Jamie Otto and Emily Tetens for rocking the crap out of these clothes.
Vintage gold beaded tunic top, $28. Perf for the holidays!
Silky blue secretary dress with neck tie & gold buttons , $26. Lovin’ the cuffs on this little dress, too.
Satin and plaid dress, $25. Warm and comfortable for holiday parties, with a super flattering cut.

Just one of the maaaany ’50s/’60s coats we’ll have for sale. I’m in love with the fur detailing on this one, and the muted mocha color.
One-shouldered razzle-dazzle dress, $28. Sequins rule…that is all.
Classic brown & white gingham shirt dress, $24. Got to love the nice tailoring on this, and how wearable it is practically year-round.

Nighty night…

Howdy all!
Have you heard the exciting news? The deets for the Mighty Swell holiday pop-up shop have been finalized!!! Hop on over to our Facebook page to get the scoop!
One of the things I love most about putting together a pop-up shop is dealing with each location’s set of quirks. It’s our job to make sure the merchandise looks awesome, and that the store’s easy and fun to shop in. Our new location, Tarnish & Gold, has double the space our first pop-up spot had. Meaning, we’re going to have more room to play in. Yesss! Here are some merchandising ideas that have caught my eye lately…
Etsy vendor Nice is an experienced pop-up vendor & merchandising pro. I love the sneak peeks she posted before Chicago’s Vintage Bazaar on her blog. It’d be cool to do little outfit set-ups like this throughout the gallery.
At the last sale, we overloaded a coat tree with purses, making it fairly cumbersome to browse. I think we can do better. Maybe filling a wall with them would work well, like Kate Spade did in her London pop-up shop? They’d be a pain to get down, but at least you can see what’s what.
I adore the interior styling of Sarah Illenberger‘s apartment in Berlin. And seeing her letterpress jewelry display confirmed that Rae and I need to thrift one to use for our shop. Check out more pics from her space here.
I caught a glimpse of the home studio belonging to the beautiful Miss James, owner of Bleubird Vintage, on her blog today. I liked how she used wooden hangers to show off sunglasses and headpieces.
I’d love to track down a couple more mannequins and group them together like these frocks in this purty painting by Janet Hill.
Anyway, we have lots and lots of work to do in the next six weeks. Tonight, I’ve caught up on inventory (blah) and now am fixin’ to make some more tags. First up though, a break for homemade cashew chicken. Yummy!
xo!

Unique Thrift Store, St. Paul
WHAT’S GOOD
♥ Purses: Most every Unique, this one included, have heaps and heaps of purses and bags. You can almost always find an old worn-in Coach satchel or bag there, too, priced, on average, between $15-20.
♥ Vintage clothes: Vintage clothes are separated out from the rest of the clothing and given their own section in both the men’s and women’s areas. I’ve found some really cute pieces at this Unique—skirts, cardigans, shoes, coats. It’ll also be worth your while to peruse the non-vintage clothing, as many times I stumble upon a darling piece from the ’60s that just wasn’t ID’d as vintage.
♥ Jewelry: Like the Unique in North Minneapolis, this one, too has a big selection of jewelry. I always find something I want to take home here—a couple weeks ago I got a turquoise and silver feather ring for $14.
♥ Vintage vinyl: Up front near the check-out is a box of vintage records. I know nothing about record collecting, but there looked to be some nice quality albums in there, starting at $3.
WHAT’S NOT GOOD
♥ House wares: For such a big store, I hardly ever find housewares or Pyrex to come home with me. They do have a lot of utilitarian stuff—pots, pans, bags of silverware—if you need kitchen basics for cheap.
♥ Furniture: Slim pickins. Enough said!
Here are a couple of my favorite finds from past trips to this Unique…
Brand new Minnetonka moccasins, size 8.5…

Impeccable white and gray Jordache faux fur coat…
Aforementioned sterling silver and turquoise ring…
