weekend in wisconsin recap

Hi guys, and happy Monday!

It’s been a long work day and I’m sort of out of words, but I wanted to pop in quickly and share some snippets from my weekend in Wisconsin with you.

Friday night’s dinner: Baked lemon chicken, potato logs, beans and chocolate pie (not pictured); all recipes (minus the beans) were from Loretta Lynn’s (awesome) cookbook.

My cabin = coziest place on earth.

Treasure hunting at a small town thrift store.

Pretty view of Lake Superior’s south shore.

Wisconsin Bloody Marys, I miss you so.

Dairy Queen pit stops…there were two.

My favorite lady country singer, who we saw perform from the third freakin’ row. It took me four songs to stop crying from happiness…it was literally like a dream.

And last, but not at all least, three days straight with this guy, who isn’t embarrassed to road trip with a lady in rollers apparently, bless his heart. After four years together, he still treats me like a treasure (even when I act like a turd). And that’s just one of the many, many, many, many reasons why I love him so.

I hope you all had wonderful weekends as well, and that your (short) week’s off to a stupendous start. Be back here tomorrow with a lovely list of links I’ve been diggin’.

xoxo,

Meghan

P.S. Photos in this post were taken with VSCO Cam.

this weekend is going to be a good time

It’s finally Friday friends! We made it! This weekend is exceptionally exciting because today, I’m heading up to my family’s lake house with my honey. And tomorrow?  We’re road trippin’ to a part of my home state I’ve never visited, my favorite coal miner’s daughter, Loretta Lynn. My sweetheart surprised me with tickets…THIRD ROW TICKETS…as an early birthday present.
Keeper much? I’d say so. Besides seeings Loretta, we don’t have much of an agenda, which I’m perfectly OK with. I’m hoping to stop at some of my favorite thrifts on the way up 35-W and I wouldn’t mind trying the beer at this little brewery in Ashland when we drive through there, but we’ll see how it goes. After such a busy week (month?), it’s going to be nice to not be in any kind of rush.
I wish you all wonderful weekends! See you all back here on Monday?
xoxo,
Meghan
P.S. The photo of Loretta was found on this blog. It was taken the moment she got word she had been been accepted into the Grand Old Opry.

life lately

This week’s been a busy one. Working all day, busting butt each and every night. I’ve been occupied mostly with readying my humble little home for the arrival of a very important guest…my boyfriend’s beautiful daughter Ian, who flew in from California late last night. She’s visited a few times before, but this time it’s different. Because this time, she’s here in Minneapolis for good.

It’s no secret that I absolutely love living on my own. But to be able to welcome her to this city, this next chapter, and provide her with a comfortable place to stay while she gets her bearings? That makes my heart nearly burst with happy. And that kind of joy makes the small sacrifices required when sharing one’s home so. totally. worth. it. Anyway, speaking of hearts bursting, we’re off to visit her grandma, aunties, uncle and cousins in St. Cloud. It couldn’t be a more beautiful, sunshine-y afternoon for a reunion…

I hope you have the most lovely of weekends, dears!

introducing…tammy crackers

Meet Tammy Crackers, the newest member of our little fur family. She came home with me just over a week ago and every day since I’ve fallen more and more in love. It’s funny how quickly one can go from “normal girl” to “crazy cat lady.” I knew it was all over on Sunday night, when I caught myself scrolling through picture after picture of her on my phone while waiting for takeout at Matt’s. You know your “crazy cat lady” freak flag’s flying high when you find yourself sitting alone at a bar, drinking a beer, pouring over her photos! She’s just so darn adorable…what am I supposed to do?

I’ll be back soon with some first impressions of the newest thrift store  in town…

anniversary weekend

Six years ago over 4th of July weekend, I drove out to the Petco in Maple Grove and fell in love with a dog. I know everyone says their dog is the BEST dog, but really and truly, mine sets the standard for awesome. I could write 10,000 words about why I love this boy with all my heart, but I guess I’ll spare you. (This time.) I plan on spoiling him rotten this weekend with heaps of treats (peanut butter-filled Kongs and rawhides are his favorites), cuddles and a trip to the river for a swim.

I love you dog!

happy dad’s day!

Happy Father’s Day, lovelies!

I’m so happy to be spending this morning with my dad (and big brother) up north at the cabin, where this photo was snapped back in 1984. It’s one of my favorite places on earth.

Tonight,  I’m hanging out with another daddy-o in my life, my boyfriend. He won’t be able to spend today with his beautiful daughter, which is a bummer. My plans for taking his mind off missing her include treating him to Jucy Lucys and then going to a show.

Whatever’s on your agenda, I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday, honoring the dad(s) in your life!

i’m back! with photos of a chicken shack!

Ten days, eight states, nine tanks of gas, 2,300 miles and hours & hours of uninterrupted time with my sweetheart. Yep, our road trip was everything I hoped for and then a whole lot more.  I have a ton of photos to go through, but here are a few snaps from my favorite meal of the trip…taken at Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack in Nashville.

Anyway, I have to dash to the Apple store to get my sick little Mac looked at. :-( Check back tomorrow though…I’m running a super sweet giveaway I know y’all are going to love!

things i do when my boyfriend’s working his tail off

In December, my boyfriend’s work schedule gets crazy. Like work-30-some-hours-in-one-weekend crazy. To keep myself from getting bummed about not seeing him as much, I remind myself that it’s only temporary, and then try to make the most of the extra alone time. Here are some things I do while he’s out there a’hustlin’.

Thrift. (Duh.)

Finish books I’ve been chipping away at for ages. One example, Dogfight: A Love Story, by Matt Burgess. Matt’s an incredible storyteller and I really loved his book.

Go to bed early. Get up early. Boring, but true.

Listen to Christmas music all. the. time. The Complete James Brown Christmas, Christmas with the Louvin Brothers and the Trojan Box Set: Christmas have been heard a lot.

Have chill girls nights at home. Like the mini baby shower/nacho night we had for Jamie last Saturday.

Make yummy Christmas treats. Apple-cinnamon spiced Jameson, peppermint bark & these addictive pretzel-chocolate thingys are festive and e-a-s-y.

Work on my pom-pom garland. One of these nights I’ll finish it, I swear! (This pretty one, clearly, isn’t mine.)

Sort out the mess that is my studio. I have big plans for the space and can’t wait to have it be more functional. You know, instead of just being a place to pile clothes, books and boxes.

Other things I’ve been up to…working on my list of goals for 2011, watching way too much of this show (why can’t I turn it off?? WHY?) and eating air-popped popcorn with Sriracha & a smidge of butter. Yum.
