cause i’m a high plains thrifter

Welcome to High Plains Thrifter, a blog dedicated to thrift-store shopping in the Twin Cities. Why start a blog about thrifting? Because it will be awesome, of course!! More than just a show-and-tell, I aim to hook you dear readers up with store reviews (including write-ups of some of my favorite off-the-beaten path spots), scoops on sales, handy how-tos, inspiring outfits of thrifty folks, giveaways and oh-so-much more, including a fair amount of rambling. Sounds pretty sweet, right? Yep, I think so too.

The gift of thrift was passed down to me by my mom when I was too small to see over the racks and too naïve to know we were shopping at Salvation Army because money was tight. These days, I’m all grown up, with an insatiable appetite for vintage clothes and a fascination with cast-offs from long-gone eras.

And while it’d be great to hop on Etsy every week and pick up everything awesome, I need to pay my mortgage and cover other necessities, like groceries and cab rides. To stretch my budget while still feed my need for the unique and old, I thrift. I thrift a lot. Digging through racks of clothes, scouring shelves of dusty knick-knacks, pilfering through boxes of ephemera, trekking to far-flung neighborhoods to wait in line at estate sales —yep, that’s pretty much how I spend every one of my weekends. I can’t help it. It’s what I do.

So, I guess that wraps up my intro. Thank you for stopping by. If you have a hot tip on an awesome thrift store, want your thrifty style to be featured, or if you just want to say hi, I’d love to hear from you at hpthrifter@gmail.com. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the first store review, coming up tomorrow. It’s going to be a good one!

xoxo,

Meghan

P.S. I couldn’t kick the blog off without thanking the good people who have pushed, pulled & prodded me along. Jess. Mary. Chris. Erica. Tate.

  1. This blog can only be summed up in one word-epic. Well done Megs, looking forward to all the awesome info and posts!

  2. This is a fun idea. I just discovered the cottage house this weekend – hoping you’ll help me remember when that place is open. :)

  3. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever realize that our forays into Sal’s, Good Will, etc. would forge such unrelenting passion for thrifting. You’ll soon need a warehouse for your many collectibles.
